The Steadfastness of God
The Steadfastness of God
Deuteronomy 31:8 “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
In the book of Joshua, we witness a powerful transition of leadership. Moses, the revered servant of God, has led the Israelites through their wilderness journey, but now, the baton is passed to Joshua. It’s a monumental shift, and with it, Joshua must rise to the challenge of leading a people on the brink of entering the promised land. The road ahead isn’t easy—there are battles to fight, giants to face, and walls to fall. Yet, God speaks to Joshua with a profound command: "Be strong and courageous."
Why does God repeat this command three times in a few verses? Because strength and courage are not just natural traits we can summon on our own—they are gifts that come from God’s steadfast presence. Joshua’s task is daunting, but God isn’t asking him to do it alone. Instead, God promises to be with him, just as He was with Moses. God’s faithfulness is unwavering, and He does not call us to face challenges without equipping us with His strength.
