Are You Homesick?

Are You Homesick?

“There’s no place like home.” We’ve all heard that phrase, and most of us feel a certain warmth rise in our hearts when we do. Home is more than just a physical place. It’s a feeling. A sense of calm, security, joy, welcome, and most of all, relationship. It’s where we are fully known and fully loved.

When God first created mankind, He placed us in a home unlike any other, the Garden of Eden. It was a place of perfect peace and provision. There, humanity walked with God, unashamed and unafraid. In that garden, we had everything we long for: calmness, security, joy, welcome, and the most vital part, a relationship with our Creator.

But sin fractured that home. Humanity was exiled, cast out of the garden and into a world that often feels foreign, hostile, and distant. Scripture calls us “exiles” and “aliens” (1 Peter 2:11), reminding us that we no longer live in the home we were made for. The world we inhabit now is not our true home. It’s a land marred by brokenness, isolation, and longing.

And yet, it is the longing itself that whispers of home. No matter where we dwell, whether in a foreign land or the place of our birth, we remain sojourners, hearts aching for a home not built by human hands. This yearning is not a flaw, but a compass, gently orienting us toward eternity.

When we fix our eyes on our true, heavenly home, we gain a perspective the world cannot offer. It is a vision granted by the One who waits with open arms, who strengthens us to cling to faith when the winds of ministry howl and threaten to shake our resolve.

So let us press on with hope, even when the path is steep and the burden heavy. This world is not our home. We are pilgrims, called not to settle, but to trust and to walk with Him, one faithful step at a time.

  • “When life feels unsettled, where do you turn for peace, and is Christ truly your refuge?”

  • “What does your heart believe about Christ as your source of calm and belonging?”

  • “In moments of restlessness, how do you remind yourself that your true home is in Him?”
