Walking by the Compass of Truth
Walking by the Compass of Truth
“Sanctify them by Your truth; Your word is truth.” - John 17:17
The word truth means “that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.” In our world today, we often hear phrases like, “That’s your truth,” or “This is my truth.” But truth isn’t something we can own or redefine. Only God owns truth — because He is Truth.
When our eyes shift away from Him, truth becomes distorted. It’s like a compass without a true north — it may look fine at first, but it will eventually lead us off course. Without true north, travelers get lost. The same happens when we lose sight of God’s truth.
God’s Word is our true north. It provides direction, correction, and confidence. When we walk by His Word, we can trust the path, even when we can’t see the destination.
As a global worker—or anyone seeking to follow God’s call—you may not always see the end of your path. There may be seasons of confusion, waiting, or doubt. You may even wonder, “Am I going the right way? “But if you are walking by the compass of Truth, you can rest assured: the Lord has you covered in every situation. His truth anchors your direction, even in uncertainty.
In John 17:17, Jesus prays for His disciples, asking the Father to sanctify them in truth. To sanctify means to be set apart. As followers of Christ, we too are called to be set apart — shaped and guided by the truth of God’s Word.
Prayer
Father, thank You that Your Word is truth. Help me keep my eyes fixed on You so that I don’t lose my way. Sanctify me by Your truth and guide me step by step as I follow You. Let Your Word be my compass, and may my life reflect Your Truth to the world. Amen.
Reflection questions:
What “false norths” (distractions, beliefs, or influences) tend to pull your focus away from God’s truth?
How can you use God’s Word as your compass when you can’t see the full path ahead?
